My last post is going to be short and straightforward. I mean, this is an innovation for my blog. So you can't say it's something bad :P
If you want to check if I simply invented the news by myself (because I often do... not), you can click just right here, okay, actually you have to click here and then you can read what the journalist wrote about the topic.
Don't worry, I won't talk about the complex physical details behind these news, even though it has actually a small relation to my research project. But maybe I'm going to write about that next term or maybe next year (sure we'll have to do another blog next year), when I will have progressed a bit and there will be more to explain.
One of the things that enchanted me most since my childhood were the universe and it's origins. I always asked myself the big questions, like "Where do we come from?" or "Why is our world the way it is?". You see, I was a child with difficult questions to answer, my parents must have had a rough time with me on some days... I did not only ask "Mummy, daddy, where do they babies come from?" knowing exactly the real answer (I was so evil), no, I also asked for things which were even a mystery for the people we consider to have been the most intelligent ones, like Einstein.
Now, this piece of news explains that basing this theory on some important discoveries about the Higgs field (which is a currently still hypothetical, invisble field that is believed to modifiy the behaviour and the properties of elemental particles) from last year, some physicists now state that our universe will possibly be "consumed" by another new universe. It will probably emerge from some point in our universe and then expand like a bubble and erase our universe while it grows.
No, don't worry, the world is not going to end the 21th of December next year..
If this really happens, we will already be history. And I mean the really far history, like, some billions of years in the past.
Anyway, it is an interesting theory. Because this could mean that our universe is not the first one. Maybe there was another one that existed before ours and it was annihilated by our universe in the same way?
This would mean that, even if we discover the origins of our own universe, we still would have to know what happened before...
Maybe you think this is kind of frustrating, perhaps we will never know everything that happened, but as I said earlier: "The human's curiosity will never have limits". And so won't mine.
If the dimensions of time and space were initialised with our universe, then we have better chances to get closer to the beginning of the beginnings. But who knows...?
Finally, I wanted to advert you that, if you are reading this post first... STOP!
You should read my posts in the chronological order because I tend to match the ideas or sentences I used in each post with other ones.
So, that was it, I've done my last post this term. God.. eh sorry... Big Bang, what a relief!
I hope you enjoy my posts and you have a good time reading ;)
Ok, let's go for the final posts! One your-say and one piece of news left. Hopefully, this is not going to take too much time.
I'll try to gather my last forces to leave you with a good final impression! So then, have your drink by your side, sit down or lay on your bed, just try to relax and let the heavy thoughts go away... Because my thoughts are going to reserve a little place up there in your thinking machine... Maybe.
We live in a society with many rules and we are more than aware of that. It is not only the mode we should interact with other individuals what we're being told, they also try to arrange our way of life.
I can't remember how many times I heard sentences like "Today, practically the only possibility to have success in life is to have good studies."
But not everyone fits in this plan. Not everyone is able to obtain a title of a higher level. Or not everyone wants to. I'm quite sure there are many people who can't find the proper career for what they really like to do. There may be many people who just don't want to study because they can't find the sense in doing it.
Most of us likely have/had/will have problems in choosing our way in life. Right now I'm going through this age. Me and, presumably, the majority of students in my school grade.
I'm quite a lucky boy as for this issue, I never had big problems with school and I think there are many things we're learning right now which are of my interest. But how to decide?
There are so many possibilities... And at the same time, there are so few ones...
I mean, I could choose between many different things, but then, if I really think more accurately about it, just a few ways are really of my interest to immerse myself completely into them. And then there are other ways which strike me with a double-edged sword. They seem so exciting, so interesting, so big, so important that they start to frighten me.
But you know something? I don't care.
Nobody can tell what I can't do. I am the only one to determine whether I am able to do something.
I am the only one to decide the way I'll follow eventually. And what's best, it's never too late to change your mind! Our society tries to tell us that we have to decide well in the first place, because we will have a very hard time to change afterwards.
However, we mustn't allow them to tell us what we have to do!
That doesn't mean we have to go around like an animal and do just, you know, everything we want. We men would go very crazy in that case...
What's important, we need to have faith in ourselves that we're able to do anything we want. Some of us are fortunate and have very good friends or other important people who always support us in our way. But if we believe in ourselves, we can move mountains (but please don't go to the next mountain and try, just a metapher... I think metapher is nominated as my new favourite word).
No matter what way we choose, we choose the right one.
In the end, our life is nothing more than a long journey, with happy moments and sad ones. A journey where, in the best case, we see so many different things of the world, of our surroundings. And this, ironically, leads us to finally know ourselves, who we really are.
A long journey we should enjoy, because if the afterlife theories are wrong, we only have one life to live. And this life is more precious than any money we could ever posess.
So go out and face the challenges, if you really want to be happy, you will be happy. Make use of the things you learn for yourself and attract the luck! Do what you like, there are so many different ways of living... And if you don't find the right one for you between the ones they recommend you, then invent your own one! Nothing is impossible.
And as you may know, I'm none of these creepy hyper-religious cult guys who always tell these brainwashing things to melt your neurones down.
I tell you these things because we always look for something to give us a little piece of strength, the piece we need to go on for the next few day or weeks. And maybe I could give you some strength and hope.
And now do yourself a little favour, go to your preferred restaurant or do your favourite sport or whatever you like to do, you deserve it ;)
Naturally, this is speaking like we are assuming thereis someone to hear you screaming... Besides the aliens.
So if you want to read the original article, follow this link, preferential with your smartphone: Let's go to space!
Science is great. And I'm an expectant scientist. But don't you think it's astonishing how ordinary simple things like a smartphone can contribute to science?
I mean, we're always joking about smartphones and some of their overly useless apps.
Hmm.. I think this is funny, where is my Laughing App...? Siri?
But now they're telling us they want to send a smartphone into space to realise some experiments, among them if there is really no sound in space.
Okay, it's really no big deal. I mean, it's supposed to be an undeniable fact that there is no sound. In a vacuum like in space, there are no molecules (but other smaller particles, for example the photons, the particles which transmit light which have no mass), so no sound waves can be transmitted from one place to another.
Even though, it's so strange to know that the little piece of computer engineering you hold in your hands daily can be used for supposedly complex stuff like measurements in the space.
Science is progressing with such a speed these days, it's simply exciting!
With all its disciplines, it affects our life in so many different ways. Thanks to the devenlopment of computers, very complicated calculations and previsions can be done nowadays. The humanity hasn't progressed so much like in the last few decades.
Obviously there are also the bad sides of this progress. There will always be people who abuse of science for their intrigues. But it will be always like that, everything has a good and a bad part and it would be unwise to not make use of the marvelous possibilities the science offers us. As I already explained in another post, there have to be limits, but there will never be any limits to human's curiosity.
...and how I got access to the wonderful world of Chihiro. Every single person should have experienced this movie at least one time. We accompany Chihiro to a wonderful but dangerous journey where she will make some really strange acquaintances and where she will mature together with us!
The young girl Chihiro and her parents move from their old residence to a new neighbourhood and during the trip, they find themselves taken away into a magic world of spirits and monsters. In order to rescue her parents Chihiro will have to learn to work for her objectives and to know how to treat the people who surround her, helping her new friends and distrust the ones who want to damage her.
Spirited Away is an outstanding film in every sense. The perfection of the setting, the magic world with all the strange creatures will make you get accostumed to it quicklier than you expect. But nonetheless, at no point you will lose the enchanting feeling, which is as well produced by the wonderful soundtrack and the pleasently peculiar characters. Rather than watching a film you will feel like if yourself are living the adventure.
If I had to talk about the negative points of the movie I would have to lie.
So all in all, whatever you think about animated films and whatever the people may tell you about this masterpiece, it actually surpasses everything. Give it a chance, you really won't regret it, especially if you are having a hard time and need someone to give you some courage.
**** out of 4, I highly recommend this film to anyone!
It's not fair to have three exams in one week (among them a biology and a philosophy test...), a certain Tirant to read for next Monday and so many other little things to do...
However, this blog is not a place for the anonymous involuntary workaholics, it's a place to take the stress and the bad thoughts, put them into a converter machine and transform them to posts which are hopefully enjoyable for the (few) reader(s).
So why this title? Well, there is a song I hope you don't know yet... It is "Not Fair" by Lily Allen and a part from traducing the song, I will do a little interpretation proper for a blog for students (which still are under 18...)
By the way, the singer was born on my birthday ;D
Not Fair by Lily Allen
Oh, he treats me with respect, he says he loves me all the time / Oh, er behandelt mich mit Respekt, er sagt die ganze Zeit er liebt mich
He calls me fifteen times a day, he likes to make sure that I'm fine / Er ruft mich fünfzehn Mal am Tag an, er mag es sicherzustellen, dass es mir gut geht
You know I've never met a man who's made me feel quite so secure/ Du weißt ich habe nie einen Mann getroffen, der mich so gänzlich sicher fühlen lässt
He's not like all them other boys, they're all so dumb and immature/ Er ist nicht wie all die anderen Jungs, die sind alle so dumm und unreif
There's just one thing that's getting in the way/ Da ist nur eine Sache, die in die Quere kommt
When we go up to bed, you're just no good, it's such a shame/ Wenn wir ins Bett gehen, du bist einfach nicht gut, es ist eine Schande
I look into your eyes, I want to get to know you/ Ich schaue in deine Augen, ich möchte dich kennerlernen
And then you make this noise and it's apparent it's all over/ Und dann machst du dieses Geräusch und es ist anscheinend alles vorüber
It's not fair and I think you're really mean / Es ist nicht gerecht und ich denke du bist echt gemein
I think you're really mean, I think you're really mean/ Ich denke du bist echt gemein, ich denke du bist echt gemein
Oh, you're supposed to care / Du solltest dich eigentlich darum kümmern
But you never make me scream, you never make me scream/ Aber du bringst mich nie zum schreien, du bringst mich nie zum schreien
Oh, it's not fair and it's really not okay/ Oh, es ist nicht gerecht und es ist echt nicht okay
It's really not okay, it's really not okay/ Es ist echt nicht okay, es ist echt nicht okay
Oh, you're supposed to care / Du solltest dich eigentlich darum kümmern
But all you do is take, yeah, all you do is take/ Aber alles was du tust ist nehmen, ja, alles was du tust ist nehmen
Oh, I lie here in the wet patch in the middle of the bed/ Oh, ich liege hier im nassen Fleck in der Mitte des Bettes
I'm feeling pretty damn hard done by, I spent ages giving head/ Ich fühle mich verdammt ungerecht behandelt, ich... "gebe ewig lang meinen Kopf"
Then I remember all the nice things that you ever said to me/ Dann erinnere ich mich an all die netten Dinge die du jemals zu mir sagtest
Maybe I'm just overreacting, maybe you're the one for me/ Vielleicht bin ich auch am überreagieren, vielleicht bist du der eine für mich
There's just one thing that's getting in the way/ Da ist nur eine Sache, die in die Quere kommt

The poor guy she dedicated this song to...
Well, what is Mrs. Allen trying to tell us with this song?
I'm going to explain you my own interpretation. Obviously, maybe you can see different things between the verses than I do ;)
She tells us about a man he was in a relationship with. He seemed to be a very good one, he always worried about her and she felt well thanks to his company. But there was something that simply didn't work...
Apparently they used to play some kind of game in the bed and when Lily was just about to really have fun playing, her boyfriend made a noise which ended the game... I assume they played this typical game the kindergartners always use to make the kids shut up, where the one who keeps silent the longest time wins...
And then he seemed to have spilled some kind of liquid, maybe milk or something like that on the bed, hence the wet patch. We learn from that part that he's rather a clumsy fellow...
Then she says she spend ages giving head... This is a bit tricky to interpret correctly, but after some intensive meditations about the true meaning I was able to convince myself that I found out what she wanted to explain us with this metapher. Probably she was always very concentrated and prepared for a hard competition, she "gave her head" in this sense to win after a long fight against him.
But he was never able to make her scream and thus making her lose the game. So I'm quite sure she's just tired of all the easy wins against her boyfriend in the silence game, because he always ended up making this noise ending the fun.
I hope you liked my little essay about what I think about the message the song transmits us, but you can always contact me if you have different ideas ;) I'm looking forward to hearing from you!
First a little introduction. What am I talking about at all?
Have you ever had an experience like one of these?
- You have to get up every day at the same time. Then, you don't remember when it started, you automatically wake up 5 minutes before your alarm clock sounds, almost every morning.
- You have heard bad news or you have done something bad. Some days pass by and then, let's say a week later when you have already been distracted enough you try to remember what happened... But you realise that the details don't come to your mind. Or you have problems recalling.
- You really wanted something. You even didn't think about the possibility of failure. And finally, it worked.
- You lie about something. You lie about it many times, but one day they ask you about it and you say accidentally the truth. Quickly, you correct yourself, it was just like a slip.
What does intervene in these situations? God? Aliens? The drugs you took?
Assuming you're an atheist, you don't believe in aliens controlling our minds (maybe it's just me :P) and you're clean, there's is one thing left.
And I won't repeat it, just read the title.
Let's invite Sigmund Freud to our little essay. What can you tell us?
...
It seems they can only send us pictures from the other side... Pictures drawn with Paint...
Well, here you can see the famous iceberg metapher applied to our mind (the sun is really kind of unnecessary...).
You can see that it's divided into 3 parts:
Id (literally "it"): The unorganized part. Your will, what you want, your instinct. It's completely irrational, exclusively guided by your passion and lust.
Ego (literally "I"): The realistic part. Where our thinking takes place. The poor ego is the responsible one to combine the demands of all the other factors, the id, the superego and the external world and to take decisions which satisfy all of them.
Superego (literally "Over-I"): The perfectionist and moral part. Everything we learned by our idols (parents, teachers, friends...) is stored here. It acts against the id, it represses the wild side of our mind and reminds us of our obligations and the rules and the principles of what we should do and who we should be.
So... Our poor ego has a hard job. It has to decide between the things we want, the things we consider as correct and what the others think and say.
Oh, I'm getting a WhatsApp message.. Oh my god.. It is Freud.. So they have better connection on the other side than we have in Castelló -.-
"The ego is not sharply separated from the id; its lower portion merges
into it.... But the repressed merges into the id as well, and is merely a
part of it. The repressed is only cut off sharply from the ego by the
resistances of repression; it can communicate with the ego through the
id."
In other words, the thoughts we repress caterogically aren't so far from what we consider realistic, from the things we really do in the end. If our will, our passion gets strong enough it is able to convince our ego to consider the repressed things. Our moral "conscience" will try to argue that.
And, what's even more interesting, if you have another look at the picture, you can see that we are only partially conscious of our ego and the superego. That is, we only know about the decisions we finally take according to our realistic interpretations and the moral rules we follow as we can to choose the right actions.
And our id? Fully unconscious. So we don't really know about our intimate wishes. All we are aware of is what reaches our ego, what we take into consideration before we decide what we do.
So our will or our passion is able to regulate our actions from the unconsciousness. That means that we sometimes can do things we really want without actually knowing we do them.
Our will has a strong power and we should not underestimate it. In my opinion, the more we pressure our will the more it wants to take control of our actions. Its like a container where you introduce a lot of gas. The pressure in the container will be so high that the smallest stimulation, let's say a rock you throw at the container, can be the trigger to cause an explosion.
Think about that, or perhaps even better, don't think about it. Maybe your unconsciousness will remind you ;)
I just realised that my oral presentation always tend to take about 6 minuts. It's interesting how the internal clock sometimes works... Maybe it's time for another psychoanalysis by Dr. Koch (no, not the one who isolated the tuberculosis bacteria and formulated the Koch's postulates, which determine when a disease is considered to be caused by an infection)...
Back to the topic, pleaaaaase!
So, here it is, my self-evaluation. Let's look carefully but purposefully through the different points:
By the way, (hehehe, I always find something to delay the main part... muahaha!) I don't know if I recall correctly the actual evaluation chart for the second term, but I'll try this one:
Body language & eye contact (10%):
I don't know why, but I look at my paper every 10 second or even less if I am actually not reading anything. Maybe I try to flee from the peering eyes of the public, perhaps I simply have to move and do something. I don't really know. Let's try next time to change that, because it's really getting on my nerves when I see myself in the video!7,5 out of 10
Presentation & structure (10%):
Well, I would say the prezi was quite simple but effective. I think I made a good use of the images and the little text on the screen to help the people to understand the facts... And I would say that the different parts of my presentation were clearly separated (by a decent "That was the boring part, now I will move on..." Maybe this is a bit too much..). Still I would say 10 out of 10
Content (40%):
Well, this is quite subjective in my opinion (yeah, this means it's also subjective to say it's subjective).
The content in this presentation was a bit strange to be honest. The task was to do something related to an English-speaking country and it's culture. Or at least something really peculiar of this country. My first idea was the part of the stereotypes. I try to make my presentations funny and enjoyable, but I realised that only the stereotypes wouldn't be enough for a half-serious presentation. So I decided to involve some useful general and... well, more or less interesting facts about the countries. Maybe the beginning was filled with too straightforward things, most of us know about the general things about the geography and the history of the countries. But I really tried to find things that would catch the people's attention, like the map comparing the populations and the origins of the Canadian country. And then later the stereotypes were... well, to show the relationship between the two countries in a slightly humorous way. Slightly. So, what was positive? The gags worked. What was negative? Somehting missed. I really don't know how to evaluate this "something", but I would say 35 out of 40 is okay.
Vocabulary & grammar (20%):
I think I did a good job as for the language part. I always try to use a simple but sophisticated grammar (paradox time). I mean, I try to use sentences with a higher level of complexity, but in way the public won't have any problems to understand my presentation. Because an oral exposition isn't worth anything if the people listening to it have no idea what the clown in front of them is talking about. And my vocabulary was varied, I watched out to use different words to express similar ideas. So, how do the youngsters say nowadays? Bitch please, that was flawless.20 out of 20
Pronunciation & intonation (20%):
Earlier, in a more immature phase, I forgot to assure myself that I pronounce correctly each word.
Bah, Christian, in the end you will seem to be obsessed.
Doing a presentation I notice how many words I always pronounced arbitrarily: independence, rebel, Canadian, symbolic, obesity, ignorant.
But I checked them before the presentation and they were no later objectives by the teaching section of the class. So I assume everything was alright.
When it comes to the intonation, well, it's something really important for the jokes and the general understanding of the exposed ideas. The people laughed and I didn't see any question marks on their faces. 20 out of 20, baby
Final mark:
Doing some maths I reach the conclusion that my mark would be a 9,25.
Basically, what I want to improve for next time is, first, to watch less at my paper and more at the beautiful faces within the audience and second, to define my topic better and offer the people more unknown facts about an interesting theme in a half-serious way.
- Hello everybody, TGI… Oh
no, it’s still Tuesday. Well, forget it.
-For the presentation of the
second term we were asked to treat a topic which has to do something with an
english-speaking country. I couldn’t help myself and I decided to talk to you
about two countries… Yes, I know, I’m a rebel.
-Today I wanted to tell you
something about the relationship between Canada and the USA.
1 (POPULATION)
- First of all, I’ll start
with the the history and the geography of the two countries.
Both countries are located on
North-America and both countries are very large, being Canada slightly larger
than the USA. The big
difference is the population and the way it’s distributed.
- Have a look at these two maps
please. Here you can see that the Canadian
population is concentrated on the southern part of the country, at the border
between Canada and the USA. The big question
is „WHY?“. Basically because up here it’s VERY COLD. And I’m from Germany, I know what the
word „cold“ really means.
- While we can see that the
population in the USA is concentrated
mostly at the coasts, we have more people on the eastern part of the country
and this part which is the more… desert area is not much populated.
- To show you the difference
between the population of the two countries, this map does a good job, you see
it’s quite striking. That means that the number of the whole population of Canada is found in the USA in each of these
parts, so there are 1,2,3, 10 times more people in the USA than in Canada.
2 (HISTORY)
- Both countries had been
initially part of British colonies, in the case of Canada also French
colonies (due to that today French is also spoken in Canada). The 13 British
Colonies of the USA became an independent state in 1776 after military conflicts with
Great Britian and later expanded to form today a country with 50 diferent
states.
- The country Canada was formed by
Great Britian itself in 1867 because they feared the expansion of the United States and wanted to
create a strong country next to it. Canada had been granted
some independence in 1931 but it was not until
1982 that Canada was declared
completely independent.
- Being the two countries
fully independent, there is still one difference, which is that Canada is a member of
the Commonwealth of Nations. The Commonwealth is a
non-political organization and the Queen of England is the official symbolic leader of the whole organization and its
members. In fact, in official terms, the Queen has got a different name in each
country when she is referred as the Commonwealth leader, so for example, her
official in Canada would the “Queen
of Canada”, being still the same person.
So my comrades, that was a
lot of information, I hope that you could learn something and that it wasn’t too
boring, now I want to move on to a little funnier part, which are the typical
stereotypes between the Canadians and the Americans. The relationship and the
respect between the citizens of each country could be better... But let me show
some examples:
3 (STEREOTYPES I)
1. Canadians (and many other
people) think that all Americans are fat. Well, actually there is a high obesity rate in the USA, but obviously
not everyone goes everyday to McDonald’s. They also go to Burger King, Kentucky
Fried Chicken... Just a joke ;)
2. All Canadians
love/like/play/watch/live hockey. Hockey is probably the most popular sport in Canada, although not
everyone is into it. But, here you can see the backside of a Canadian 5$ bill.
This is real, here you can see kids practicing winter sports and among them
hockey.
3. Americans are violent and
rude/ Canadians are peaceful and polite. Well, we all know the USA has participated in many wars and is still doing. I would say
it’s because of the politics and the history of the country that many have this
opinion. And as the Canadians have to be opposed to the Americans, they have to
be angels ;)
4. Canadians are bilingual.
This is not true, most of the Canadians only speak English or French, but not
both of them. Yet the Canadians are happy about this stereotype because it’s
makes them look more sophisticated.
4 (STEREOTYPES II)
5. Canadians live in igloos
and ride polar bears...
6. Americans are ignorant. I
don’t know if they really are, but at least the people who invented these stereotypes
are really ignorant.
5 CONCLUSION
Finally, to conclude this
presentation, I think that if you really want to know a country and its
culture, visit it and make your own opinion by your own experiencies.
As you may have noticed, I cut some parts off, like the further explanation of the Commonwealth, or the German/cold joke. I thought they weren't proper for the presentation. Then there are some sentences I simply... well, forgot to say, being most of them long connectors (maybe the surprising or striking effect was better).
